What draws you to speak?
For many of us, speaking brings confidence, poise, and skills that we never thought we had. For others it brings the ability to communicate your message to diverse audiences. One side effect is that when you come up to the podium you assume a position of power. What are you going to do with that power?
As my skills as a speaker increase and I find myself speaking to more audiences around the world, I am often stunned by the eyes penetrating my poise and making me wonder, “why me?”
It is a positive and negative to have that position. When you stand up there and deliver with poise and confidence, people will listen to you, believe what you have to say, and you cannot let the people that trust down. As speakers and Toastmasters, we have a mission to deliver a message. Are we using that for good?
I hope so.
What do you think of the Power of the Podium? Is it more than often used for good or for less than good purposes?
