On December 29th, 2008, I interviewed Marty M. Fahncke of Conference Call University. During the call we discussed ways that conference call presenters can get better at presenting without that audience feedback that you get from live presentations. One technique we discussed was having an audience of Toastmasters in the room while presenting so that your teleseminars have a more interactive feel.
After the call, I spoke with Marty and realized that teleseminars and Toastmasters were two things that went together well. Why? Because there are many people that are conducting teleseminars who need Toastmasters and there are many Toastmasters that could benefit from the audiences that teleseminars can provide.
What teleseminars provide Toastmasters and improving speakers is another venue that you can use to practice your presentations. Also, most free teleseminar services provide recording of the calls, so you have the recording to review to see how you did with teleseminars.
When I thought of this combination, I realized that by conducting teleseminars, you can practice your speeches, get feedback from people listening, and then have a recording that you can use as a product or to review your speeches. It is a winning proposition for speakers that feel that they do not have the audiences available to them to get the practice they need.
So how do you get started conducting teleseminars?

Chris,
Thanks for the interview! This is a great summary and perspective of the information we discussed in the recording.
One thing I didn’t get a chance to do in the interview was stress the importance of TOASTMASTERS for the budding speaker, Teleseminar leader, or webinar host.
The skills you learn as a Toastmaster are absolutely essential to being successful in any of these areas.
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my Toastmaster club TGIF Toastmasters. (http://tgiftoastmasters.com)
If you are in the Kansas City/Overland Park area, be sure to come and check out the club.
If you live elsewhere, go to http://www.toastmasters.org/ to find a club near you.
Either way, you’ll be glad you did!
